Velas Resorts, other hotels name sales, marketing leaders

A number of hotels and resorts across the country—and beyond—have appointed sales and marketing leaders in recent weeks. Here are some names to know.

Adero Scottsdale Resort

Adero Scottsdale (Ariz.) Resort, Autograph Collection, appointed Ginger Gibson director of sales.

Gibson’s career spans senior leadership roles at several celebrated New York City hotels, including the former Redbury New York under sbe’s management, Dream Hotel Group and the Gramercy Park Hotel, developed and managed by the Ian Schrager Company. 

Most recently, Gibson was director of sales & marketing at the Sheraton Edison in Edison, N.J. Before that, she was area director of sales & marketing for The Asbury Collection, overseeing three properties and consistently exceeding revenue and room night goals.

Hotel Maya

The Hotel Maya in Long Beach, Calif., has appointed Lisa Duncan director of sales & marketing.

Duncan has been part of the Hotel Maya team for more than a decade. Most recently as director of catering & convention services, she oversaw the hotel’s catering and convention operations.

Before Hotel Maya, Duncan held senior sales and convention services roles with Choura Events in Long Beach and at luxury hotels including Shutters on the Beach, Casa del Mar, Claremont Resort & Spa and Renaissance Stanford Court Hotel. Duncan began her hospitality career with Kimpton Hotels in San Francisco and supported multiple W Hotels openings as part of the brand’s task force team. 

InterContinental Washington D.C. The Wharf

InterContinental Washington D.C. The Wharf appointed Tyler Jones director of sales and marketing and Monique Harrison director of group sales.

Jones joins the hotel following his role as the opening director of sales and marketing for JW Marriott Reston Station, where he led market entry, brand positioning and commercial strategy for the landmark property. His career includes leadership roles across eight luxury, convention and resort hotels nationwide.

Harrison has led group sales for some of the DMV region’s most acclaimed properties including The Alexandrian Old Town Alexandria, Autograph Collection; Morrison House Old Town Alexandria, Autograph Collection; Kimpton Hotel Palomar Washington D.C.; and The Westin Alexandria Old Town.  

The Kimpton Pittman Hotel

The Kimpton Pittman Hotel in Dallas appointed Paul Calvin director of sales and marketing.

Calvin has more than 15 years of hospitality sales and marketing experience across Dallas, Austin and Chicago. Most recently, he was director of sales and marketing for Graduate by Hilton Dallas, where he helped lead the hotel’s opening and oversaw group, catering, consortia and business transient sales. His recent background also includes senior sales leadership roles with Virgin Hotels Dallas and Canopy by Hilton Austin Downtown, along with broader experience across Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott and independent lifestyle brands.

Sofitel New York

The recently renovated Sofitel New York appointed Andrea Puizina as director of sales and marketing. 

Born in Croatia, Puizina holds a Master’s Degree in Communication Science with a specialization in Mass Communication from La Sapienza University of Rome. She has worked in Italy, Uganda, the Dominican Republic and the United States with hospitality brands such as Virgin Hotels, Meliá and Rocco Forte. For the past 11 years, she has been based in New York City.

Her professional background spans meeting planning, global sales strategy, hospitality management and customer experience, supported by fluency in Croatian, Italian, English, and Spanish. Puizina is also a recognized industry leader and advocate, currently serving as Vice President of Membership for SITE Northeast and previously as President in 2022. In 2024, she was named a Top 5 Sales Professional by HSMAI New York City. 

Tommy Bahama Miramonte Resort & Spa 

Janet Galippo has joined the Tommy Bahama Miramonte Resort & Spa in California  director of marketing. Most recently, she was director of marketing at PGA WEST, where she led integrated initiatives. Before that, she spent two years as membership director at Marrakesh Country Club, overseeing all public relations, marketing and social media initiatives. Earlier in her career, she spent seven years as marketing manager at La Quinta Resort & Club, a Waldorf Astoria Resort. 

Velas Resorts

Velas Resorts has promoted Melissa Arreola to senior regional sales director for the Northeast United States. She joined the company in 2014. 

W Punta Cana

W Punta Cana, Adult All-Inclusive, the first all-inclusive resort under W Hotels, appointed Patricia Alvarez director of sales & marketing.

Alvarez has overseen commercial teams across the Caribbean, Latin America, Mexico, the United States and Canada. She has played a role in more than ten hotel openings and brand transformations.

Throughout her career, Alvarez has held senior commercial leadership roles with Marriott International, Karisma Hotels & Resorts, AM Resorts and Meliá Hotels International. In 2024, she joined Marriott’s all-inclusive segment, where she led comprehensive commercial strategies encompassing brand positioning, digital marketing, public relations, revenue collaboration and key account management.

Alvarez holds an MBA from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra and a Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel Management, with degree equivalency validated by the University of Toronto.
