Meet Victoria, a Sales Enablement Specialist on Yelp’s Multi-Location Sales Training team, whose #FiveStarCareer journey began in August 2022. In her role, Victoria focuses on delivering impactful content to sales organizations, empowering them to optimize the sales cycle and drive revenue growth. She and her team are regularly involved in go-to-market meetings, leading live training sessions, and serving as thought partners to the sales teams they support.
Q: What does a typical day look like in your role?
A: A typical day for me involves a mix of meetings with cross-functional teams and content creation. I like to start my mornings with my favorite coffee, and I love taking early meetings outside on my back patio. As the day warms up, I transition to my office for focused work, like catching up on emails, following up on outstanding items, and diving into content creation.
Q: What is your favorite part of your work?
A: My answer is two-fold. First, I genuinely enjoy the building process that happens before launching a new product, project, or training. Collaborating with different teams and understanding the goals and motivations behind each initiative is exhilarating. I love working alongside such talented people.
Second, I find it incredibly rewarding to interact with the sales organizations when rolling out a new project or product. Seeing everything come together and knowing I’ve contributed to their success truly warms my heart. My role fosters direct connections with sales leaders and reps, and I can honestly say I’ve made some lifelong friends here at Yelp.
Q: How did you know that you wanted to pursue a career in sales?
A: I naturally fell into sales more than 15 years ago. As a people-person who’s never been shy, I’ve always found it easy to strike up conversations and build relationships with just about anyone, and at its core, that’s what sales is all about. After spending more than a decade in various sales roles, I decided to shift my focus to a more supportive role, which ultimately led me to Sales Enablement.
Q: If you could sum up your journey at Yelp so far into one word, what would it be and why?
A: Fun! I’ve had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, each providing a deeper understanding of the Yelp ecosystem. Through these experiences, I’ve met incredible people, taken on new challenges, and grown tremendously. As a lifelong learner, I truly enjoy diving into new projects and connecting the pieces. It’s both energizing and rewarding.
Q: What is something that surprised you about working at Yelp?
A: When I first joined Yelp, I was surprised by how many people had been here for so long. On my immediate team alone, there are four people who have been with the company for 10+ years. Now that I’ve been here for three years myself, I understand why. Yelp has a fantastic culture and genuinely cares about its people.
Q: Tell us about a moment when you felt connected to Yelp’s mission.
A: I feel connected to Yelp’s mission of connecting people with great local businesses through every project I take on. One memorable moment was when our sales org ran into a technical issue in our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system that was delaying deals. Drawing on my knowledge of the CRM, I proposed an alternative solution to leadership, which allowed our sellers to close deals more efficiently and continue supporting businesses without delays. Moments like these remind me of the real impact my work has every day.
Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
A: I’m a first-generation college graduate with a master’s degree in Public Administration, and I’m currently working toward my PhD in Strategic Leadership.
